Serendipity
I first decided to choose NFT as my golden ticket to open the front gate to WEB 3.0 is when I first got to know about the digital currency, I’ve heard many dramatic stories about getting rich overnight. However, witnessing BAYC and cryptopunk take off like a rocket on fire, the entry barrier is getting almost impossible for me. So I took advice from a KOL, and tried to begin with affordable items. Unfortunately, the project value dropped straight from 0.2 ETH to 0.03 ETH in less than three months of time, and the project owner chose to do nothing. Till then I am 100% certain, on the way to financial freedom I was played for a sucker.
I (Rick Yang) with another founder Hugo, a senior who brought me into the field. One day after work, we gathered at a restaurant, with sake and barbeque, we shared our experiences of being played for a sucker. With slight anger, a sudden idea pops up into my mind. If the Blue-chip project is not reachable, and we are tired of being played, why don’t we issue a project ourselves, so we asked another founder Jeff who has strong connections in many fields and is willing to connect us to desirable professionals.
Artist, key element we first to begin with. Jeff’s friend Ting, who works in a bar, was majoring in painting back in school, so we met up at her bar to discuss our idea. She had a flash of inspiration during our conversation, she wants to build a character who has an animal head connected to a human body, with its hands tied up on the back and in a kneeling posture.
We thought it was very artistic, so we asked Ting to have the initial draft ready in a week or so. Ting was so happy, she had 10 draft beers plus extra 3 shots that night, she was so wasted. A week after, we had a progress confirmation over the phone, Ting was again still hammered, we had tinge bad feeling, then few more weeks passed, Ting was still having trouble to initial the draft.
One day we three founders were discussing, if the project stuck on the artist, should we abandon our idea? I randomly doddle a character with a facial expression on the iPad, trying to let go of my frustration. It echoed Hugo and Jeff’s feelings right away when they saw the drawing, they couldn’t help but laugh. This drawing is a perfect portrayal of our awkward feelings. Why don't we issue this? And just like that, the SillyDaddyNFT was born.
The market is maybe crazy, but it's also happening, and we will constantly be looking for the purpose of NFT. Frankly maybe it really has no further usage, it’s simply a jpeg.
Nevertheless by planting a seed today, perhaps a butterfly effect will be plant, along with the passing time, no one can predict the future. Maybe a few years later, when your kids find out that you are using the SillyDaddyNFT in the Metaverse, instead of mocking you, you’ll probably be proud to admit that you are one of team.
